Thoughts of a Laborer 03-31-13
Today we have celebrated our risen Lord. I’m sure we have been near people at the service who do not know the Lord. We sometimes refer to them as C&E Christians. They are in church twice a year for various different reasons but one of the underlying reasons that are in church only twice a year is that those of us who do know Our Lord are often too ashamed of Him to share Him. Sharing Him does not mean that we have to give someone a scripture verse when we see them, it does not mean greeting everyone with a, “Praise the Lord”. In scripture, I don’t remember St. Peter greeting people with, “Praise the Lord” or a Bible verse. I do remember St. Paul and Peter exhorting us to greet our Christian Family with a kiss.1 I also remember St. Peter greeting those outside of the body of Christ with Power. The Power of God’s love emanated from him. So much so that people anywhere near him were healed. Not all of us will be graced to walk in such power, but there is healing power in a smile or a kind word or simply noticing that someone is having a bad day, acknowledging their sour demeanor with a kind word and, an offer to pray for them to the living God, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Whenever we come in contact with another human I would exhort all to show at least as much affection as many of us show cute little dogs when they come near to us. Humans are far more than dogs, they are God’s prize creation and His love through us will draw them to Him.
