Nazareth:

Posted by on November 14, 2013

This weeks adventure began at the Nazareth Retreat Centre in Sligoville.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Lowel and I spent a total of three days and three nights with the owners of the property along with Rande and his son Ezra – who are missionaries from Florida.  Our objectives for this visit were to explore some of the caves and sinkholes on the Nazareth property; as well as, seal the perimeter of the property and find new activities and adventures for the youth of the Church.  It was a wonderful time of sharing God’s Glory Stories and exploring the surrounding property.

Below, you will find the photos from our adventure at Nazareth:

Hey, I just found a new widget…Check this out…How Cool!

Below, is a small slide show of the guy’s “Bush Adventure” in Sealing the Perimeter of the Property with Salt.  It is a very symbolic and spiritual event that sets the boundaries around ones property to ward off any un-Godly spirits or activities, i.e., Obeah – which is Jamaican Voodoo.  The guys were in the Bush for over six hours and came home thirsty, hungry, mosquito bitten, wasp kissed and dirty from head to toe.

“SALT”

OK! So Rose is telling me that this is where I am supposed to chime in.

Most of us participate in rituals without knowing from where these rituals originate. In the second chapter of Leviticus verse thirteen the Lord is speaking to our ancestral heritage[1]. He says,

“You shall season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not let the salt of the covenant with your God be lacking from your grain offering. On every offering you shall offer salt.”(Leviticus 2:13)

Also;

Scripture refers to a “covenant of salt” as an “everlasting covenant” i.e. in perpetuity. (Numbers 18:19)

Grace our Hostess and Sunil, the Stewart of this property her son, had requested that Rande and me walk the perimeter of the property blessing the entire 36+ acres with salt. In essence Sunil and Grace have made an offering of this property to the Lord for the purposes of service to Him. Salt has been sprinkled on the surrounding boundaries of the property so as to say to the Lord and all other thrones, powers, principalities and rulers, that these boundaries and all that is within them is consecrated to the Lord of Host who is our Lord Jesus Christ.

I feel that it very necessary for me to make the following point:

Most people deal with rituals, traditions and symbols at a very superficial level. When one has a superficial mindset, the use of items in any practice has the propensity for SUPERSTITION. Salt is simply an item that God has asked us to use to mark the type of covenant that is being made. In the reality of God’s paradigm, all covenants with Him are meant to be perpetual. Look again at Leviticus 2:13, “Do not let THE SALT of the covenant….” I would suggest that God’s reference to salt here is a metaphor for “the spicy attitude of enduring fervor”, “first love”, which is supposed to be perpetual with and in our relationship with our God. That is why He requests that, “On every offering you shall offer salt”. (See also Matthew 5:3) Salt itself does not cleanse the property of anything. The only thing salt may do to the property that is lasting, or temporary, is to change the acidity of the soil. If one were to believe that the salt is the cleanser then one is falling into superstition.

It is God’s inhabitation of the property that brings the property into cleanliness!

A covenant with God is a partnership with Him. A “salt” covenant with God is a covenant in perpetuity, pointing to our perpetual love, passion, zeal, spiciness in our relationship to God. In Truth, our Lord would have that all our covenants with Him never be broken and be saturated with passionate love for Him. When God is our Partner, all of His assets come to bear on our endeavors.

When God is our Partner all of His assets come to bear on our endeavors.

As you probably can surmise, it was a great couple of days and we thank our hosts for their wonderful hospitality!

Until next time…

GOD’S PEACE
